Old Larsen & Toubro Shares: What They Are Worth and How to Recover Them
Reviewed 22 September 2026
In short
Larsen & Toubro issued bonus shares in the ratio of one for every two held twice in recent years: with a record date of 13 July 2013, and again with a record date of 14 July 2017. An older holding will have grown through those and through earlier corporate actions.
Corporate actions that changed the holding
- 2013Bonus issue, 1:2One bonus share of ₹2 for every two shares held. Record date 13 July 2013.
- 2017Bonus issue, 1:2One bonus share for every two shares held. Record date 14 July 2017.
Worked example. Taking only these two bonuses: 100 shares held before July 2013 became 150, then 225 after the 2017 bonus.
L&T has a long corporate history including demergers that we have not verified, so they are not listed. The registrar can confirm what a folio holds today.
Who to write to
Check the company’s current registrar before you write
- Where to look
- The investor or shareholder section of the company’s website, and the general shareholder information section of its latest annual report
- Why it matters
- Registrars merge and change hands — TSR Consultants became Link Intime, which became MUFG Intime — so an address on old correspondence is often out of date
We have not verified this company’s current registrar against a company or registrar source, so we are not naming one here.
Registrars change. Confirm the current one on the company’s investor page before posting anything, and see how to find a company’s registrar.
How the shares are recovered
- The shares are in your name and you have the certificates
Update KYC on the folio if needed, then dematerialise them so they can be sold.
- The shareholder has died
The nominee, surviving joint holder or legal heirs claim through transmission.
- You bought the shares on paper before April 2019
SEBI's special window, open until 4 February 2027, lets you complete the transfer.
- The certificates are lost or damaged
The registered holder or heirs apply for duplicates, credited to demat.
- The shares or dividends were transferred to IEPF
Claim them back from the IEPF Authority with Form IEPF-5.
- The certificate is in an old or merged company name
The holding may now sit with a renamed or successor company.
Questions we are asked about Larsen & Toubro shares
How do I find L&T’s registrar?
From the investor section of L&T’s website or the general shareholder information in its latest annual report. We have not named one here because we could not verify it against a company source.
Do old L&T certificates still represent shares?
Generally yes, unless the shares were transferred to the IEPF after seven years of unclaimed dividends, or duplicates were issued. Both are worth checking before you do anything else.
Can we claim if the shareholder has died?
Yes, through transmission. Holdings within ₹10 lakh per company in physical form need an indemnity bond and the other heirs’ affidavit-cum-NOC under SEBI’s July 2026 framework.
