Free Unclaimed Share & IEPF Search

Shares reported at around ₹89,000 crore sit unclaimed with the IEPF, across 1,671 listed companies. If a parent or grandparent ever bought shares, it costs nothing to find out whether some of it is yours.

What happens after you send the form

  1. 1A specialist searches the IEPF records under the name you give us, and the common variants of it — initials, maiden names, and the misspellings that decades-old records are full of.
  2. 2Where you have named companies, we write to their registrars to confirm what the folio holds and whether dividends are unpaid.
  3. 3We call you with what we found, including when the answer is nothing. That happens, and you should hear it plainly.
  4. 4If there is something to claim, we explain the route and what it needs. Only then is there any question of engaging us, and there is no advance fee.

Or search it yourself — here is how

Everything we do on the search side is public and free. If you would rather do it yourself, these are the four places to look, in the order that finds the most.

Search the IEPF records yourself

The IEPF Authority publishes searchable records of shares and dividends transferred to it, by company and shareholder name. It is free, and if your spelling matches you may not need us at all.

How to search the IEPF records

Pull a statement against the PAN

NSDL and CDSL each issue a Consolidated Account Statement against a PAN, listing demat holdings and mutual fund folios in one document. It will not show physical certificates or IEPF holdings.

What a PAN search can and cannot find

Ask the company’s registrar

With a folio number and the holder’s name, a registrar will confirm what the folio holds and whether dividends are unpaid. Finding the right registrar is half the battle.

How to find the registrar

Check the paper at home first

Old dividend warrants, annual reports that still arrive by post, and bank statements showing dividend credits each name a company and often a folio. This is usually the most productive search of all.

Questions about the search

Is this an instant search tool?

No, and we would rather say so. It is a request form: a specialist runs the search against the IEPF records and the company's registrar and comes back to you, usually within one working day. Name matching on decades-old records needs judgement — initials, maiden names and misspellings all have to be tried — which is exactly the part an instant lookup gets wrong.

Can I search the IEPF records myself?

Yes, free of charge. The IEPF Authority publishes searchable records at iepf.gov.in, and anyone can file Form IEPF-5 without paying an agent. We run the search for people who would rather not, or who have already tried and found nothing under the spelling they used.

What does the search cost?

Nothing. There is no charge for the search or the assessment that follows, and no advance professional fee if you then ask us to act. Our fee is an agreed percentage charged only after shares are credited to your demat account.

Do I need the folio number or PAN?

No. The name is enough to start. We deliberately do not ask for PAN, Aadhaar or bank details on this form — if the search finds something and you want to proceed, those are collected later over a channel appropriate to the document.

What if the shareholder has died?

That is the most common case we handle. Tell us in the form and we will search under their name, then explain what transmission would need. Holdings within SEBI limits usually need an indemnity bond and the other heirs’ NOC, with no court document.

What happens to the details I enter?

They reach our advisory desk by email and are used to run your search and contact you about it. We do not sell or share them. See our privacy policy for how long we keep enquiry data.
