Share Recovery Agent in Kanpur

Kanpur was Uttar Pradesh’s industrial capital for a century, and it produced more physical share certificates than anywhere else in the state. A great many of them are still in family cupboards. We trace and recover them.

Claims are handled remotely and no professional fee is payable before the shares are credited to you.

Mill city, defence factories, and an exchange of its own

Kanpur’s textile, leather and engineering economy — the great mills, the ordnance and small arms factories, the tanneries at Jajmau — employed and enriched a very large population through the twentieth century. Both ends of that economy bought shares: mill owners and traders in size, and salaried employees through reserved allotments and small public issue applications.

The city also had a stock exchange of its own. Companies with a local character listed there rather than in Mumbai, and Kanpur investors bought accordingly. When SEBI’s exit policy wound up the regional exchanges, those shareholders were left holding certificates in companies with no market anywhere near them.

The third factor is specific to Kanpur and harder: several of the great mills closed. Shares in a company that stopped operating are not automatically worthless — it may have been restructured, absorbed, or still hold assets — but establishing what happened requires MCA records and registrar correspondence rather than assumption. That is the first piece of work on most Kanpur files.

What Uttar Pradesh families need to produce

In Uttar Pradesh a legal heir certificate is issued by the Tehsildar, applied for through the state e-District portal, after the Lekhpal verifies the family details locally. Succession certificate petitions go to the district court where the deceased ordinarily lived.

In many cases no such certificate is needed. SEBI’s simplified transmission route covers holdings up to ₹10 lakh per company in physical form and ₹30 lakh in demat, on a notarised indemnity bond and an affidavit-cum-NOC from the other legal heirs.

  • Death certificate, SEBI’s transmission request form (Annexure-3) and the claimant’s KYC documents
  • Notarised indemnity bond and affidavit-cum-NOC from the other legal heirs
  • A Tehsildar’s legal heir certificate through the e-District portal, or a succession certificate, only above SEBI’s limits
  • A demat account in the claimant’s name, with a Client Master List under two months old

What we handle for clients in Kanpur

How a Kanpur claim actually runs

Five stages, the same wherever you are. Nothing here needs you to travel, and nothing is billed until the last one.

  1. 1

    Free assessment

You send whatever you have — a certificate, a folio number, a name, sometimes only a company. We tell you what exists and what it is likely worth before you commit to anything.

  2. 2

    Tracing and confirmation

We search the IEPF records and write to the registrar to confirm the holding, the corporate actions applied to it since, and who it currently stands in the name of.

  3. 3

    Documents assembled

Death certificate, heirship evidence, indemnity bond, NOCs, KYC and the demat account details — prepared in the order the registrar and the company will want them.

  4. 4

    Filing and follow-up

Form IEPF-5, the transmission request or the duplicate issue is filed, and we chase the company Nodal Officer and the Authority until the verification report moves.

  5. 5

    Shares credited

The securities are credited directly to your own demat account. Our fee becomes payable at this point, and not before.

The process in full

Zero advance fee — what Kanpur clients pay, and when

We charge no advance professional fee. Our fee is a percentage agreed with you before we start, payable only once the shares or dividends have reached your own demat or bank account. If nothing is recovered, you owe us no professional fee at all.

  • Nothing to pay for the assessment, and nothing while the claim is running
  • The percentage is fixed in writing before any work starts — it does not move later
  • Statutory and third-party costs — stamp duty, notary, court fees, newspaper notices — are paid by you at actuals, with receipts
  • Shares are credited to your account, never to ours; we never take custody of your securities

Anyone who asks you for money before a claim has been assessed is worth walking away from. Read the full fee policy.

Questions from Kanpur

Do you have an office in Kanpur?

No. Our office is in Gurugram and we serve Kanpur remotely — documents by courier, identity verified over video, shares credited to your own demat account. We do not claim branches we do not have.

The mill my grandfather held shares in shut down decades ago.

That needs checking rather than assuming. A company may have been amalgamated, renamed, revived, or wound up, and the answer determines whether there is anything to claim. We check MCA master data and the registrar’s records before you spend anything.

The company was listed only on the Kanpur exchange.

The exchange closing did not affect your ownership of the shares. What matters is what became of the company — some migrated to the national exchanges, some merged, some lapsed. That is traced through registrar and MCA records.

Do you cover the smaller towns and villages in Kanpur Nagar district?

Yes — Bithoor, Ghatampur, Bilhaur, Kanpur Dehat, Akbarpur and the villages around them are handled in exactly the same way, and at the same cost. Because the work runs by courier and video, being outside the district headquarters changes nothing about the claim or the fee.

Could I do this myself?

Yes. The IEPF Authority’s records can be searched free and Form IEPF-5 can be filed by anyone on the MCA portal at no cost. We charge for assembling the documentation, handling registrar and company verification and following it through — not for access to something that is public.

What will it cost, and when?

Nothing in advance. A percentage agreed with you in writing before we start becomes payable only after the shares reach your own demat account. Statutory costs — stamp duty, notary, court fees, newspaper notices — are paid by you at actuals, with receipts.
