Old Jio Financial Services Shares: What They Are Worth and How to Recover Them
Reviewed 22 September 2026
In short
Jio Financial Services was demerged from Reliance Industries in 2023: every shareholder on the record date of 20 July 2023 was entitled to one JFS share for each RIL share held. Holders of physical Reliance shares are the group most likely never to have received or claimed that entitlement.
Corporate actions that changed the holding
- 2023Demerger from Reliance IndustriesOne Jio Financial Services share for every Reliance Industries share held on the record date, 20 July 2023.
We have not verified Jio Financial Services’ registrar against a company source, so we are not naming one. Start with Reliance’s registrar, which can point you to where the entitlement sits.
Who to write to
Check the company’s current registrar before you write
- Where to look
- The investor or shareholder section of the company’s website, and the general shareholder information section of its latest annual report
- Why it matters
- Registrars merge and change hands — TSR Consultants became Link Intime, which became MUFG Intime — so an address on old correspondence is often out of date
We have not verified this company’s current registrar against a company or registrar source, so we are not naming one here.
Registrars change. Confirm the current one on the company’s investor page before posting anything, and see how to find a company’s registrar.
How the shares are recovered
- The shares are in your name and you have the certificates
Update KYC on the folio if needed, then dematerialise them so they can be sold.
- The shareholder has died
The nominee, surviving joint holder or legal heirs claim through transmission.
- You bought the shares on paper before April 2019
SEBI's special window, open until 4 February 2027, lets you complete the transfer.
- The certificates are lost or damaged
The registered holder or heirs apply for duplicates, credited to demat.
- The shares or dividends were transferred to IEPF
Claim them back from the IEPF Authority with Form IEPF-5.
- The certificate is in an old or merged company name
The holding may now sit with a renamed or successor company.
Questions we are asked about Jio Financial Services shares
I hold old physical Reliance certificates. Do I have JFS shares?
If the folio was on the register on 20 July 2023, there was an entitlement of one JFS share per RIL share. Where the holding was physical, the entitlement often could not be credited and sits unclaimed.
How do I claim the entitlement?
You will need a demat account, and the underlying Reliance folio needs to be in order — KYC updated, and transmission completed if the shareholder has died. [Old Reliance shares](https://globalequitysolutions.in/old-shares/reliance-industries) covers that side.
Could the JFS shares have gone to the IEPF already?
Not yet on the seven-year dividend rule, given the 2023 demerger. But the underlying Reliance holding may have, which would need resolving first.
