Old Infosys Shares: What They Are Worth and How to Recover Them
Reviewed 22 September 2026
In short
Infosys has issued 1:1 bonus shares three times in recent years — in December 2014, June 2015 and September 2018 — on top of a 2:1 stock split in 2000. A holding from the 1990s or 2000s is therefore many times larger than the number printed on the certificate. The registrar is KFin Technologies.
Corporate actions that changed the holding
- 2000Stock split, 2:1Each share was split into two.
- 2014Bonus issue, 1:1One bonus share for every share held. Record date 3 December 2014.
- 2015Bonus issue, 1:1One bonus share for every share held, allotted June 2015.
- 2018Bonus issue, 1:1One bonus share for every share held. Record date 5 September 2018.
Worked example. Taking only the three recent bonus issues: 100 shares held before December 2014 became 200, then 400, then 800 after the 2018 bonus.
Infosys made earlier bonus issues in the 1990s and 2000s that we have not verified and so have not listed. KFintech confirms the current holding on a folio.

How the shares are recovered
- The shares are in your name and you have the certificates
Update KYC on the folio if needed, then dematerialise them so they can be sold.
- The shareholder has died
The nominee, surviving joint holder or legal heirs claim through transmission.
- You bought the shares on paper before April 2019
SEBI's special window, open until 4 February 2027, lets you complete the transfer.
- The certificates are lost or damaged
The registered holder or heirs apply for duplicates, credited to demat.
- The shares or dividends were transferred to IEPF
Claim them back from the IEPF Authority with Form IEPF-5.
- The certificate is in an old or merged company name
The holding may now sit with a renamed or successor company.
Questions we are asked about Infosys shares
How much has an old Infosys holding grown?
Three 1:1 bonus issues since 2014 alone multiply a holding eightfold, before counting earlier bonuses and the 2000 split. The registrar will confirm the exact figure for your folio.
Who is the registrar for Infosys shares?
KFin Technologies (KFintech), in Hyderabad, which handles physical and demat service requests for Infosys shareholders.
Can I still hold Infosys shares on paper?
You can hold them, but you cannot sell them in physical form. Listed shares trade only in demat, so the certificates must be dematerialised first.
